Last updated: December 26, 2009 (As expected, no significant changes and do not expect any this season.) In my 35 years as a fur buyer, I have never seen the fur business this uncertain. I don't believe the fur business is dead but is very sick, it can recover as the world wide recession begins to improve. In the past the fur market lagged behind the rest of the economy maybe because it is considered a luxury item. In my opinion the main problem is our US President and his high tax and debt administration. - China is loaning trillions of dollars to our government to cover debt, this leaves less money China can spend on furs, (China is of our main users of wild furs) also China finances other countries with money to purchase fur.
- This administration has appointed animal rights fanatics to high positions in his administration (under the George Bush administration the same animal rights fanatics were labeled as domestics terrorists)
Enough about this voter mistake. I don't see much improvement this season, every major fur buyer I know of, still has all their fur from last season. If they can't sell this seasons it is pretty bleak. As of January 31,2010 I will end this season for buying coon fur. Low grade fur, damaged fur, smalls of any species will be unsellable this season. Check back for updates as they develop. |
